I am unabashedly a secondhand super sleuth. Etsy, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Poshmark, and Depop are a few of my favorite corners of the internet. I love the idea of giving an item a second lease on life. How was this thing used before it came into my hands?! There’s also no greater dopamine hit than when I’ve been punching random keywords into a search bar for hours and it finally leads me down the rabbit hole I’ve been looking for.
Second Best will be a column highlighting my latest secondhand searches and finds. For future installments, I’d like to work with a theme or deep dive on a particular item. I’m kind of shooting from the hip on this one. It started by admiring a gold basket charm… and then I browsed through 40+ pages of Etsy likes to find things to pair with it. The end result: a coastal-inspired palette of late summer items that maybe you would wear to the farmers market? Yeah? Anyway, they’re cute so let’s get into it:
Solid 14k Yellow Gold Basket Charm - The charm that kicked-off this whole post. I’m a total basket babe and love them in every form. What better way to display your love for all things basketry than with this petite charm.
Vintage French Workwear Jacket - I know barn coats are going to be THE coat this fall (and for good reason! it’s a classic silhouette and there are so many colors to choose from especially if you shop secondhand), however, I’ve done a few searches for vintage french workwear jackets and I think I might pull the trigger this fall. I still haven’t found *the one* but I’m obsessed with blue and the work/chore coat style. Wish me luck.
1930s Ruffle Blouse - My personal style pendulum swings far and wide and a chunk of my closet consists of ruffled, prairie, little women-esque tops and dresses. This top would be a nice addition to my collection.
Cotton Striped Sweater - Unfortunately, I’ve forced myself to pump the breaks on striped sweaters, but maybe you’d like to add this navy and white mock neck sweater to your cart?
Vintage Levi’s 501 Jeans - White jeans are nice, but a cream or ecru wash is superior. I have a few pairs of vintage 501s and I think the pricing on this pair is very reasonable. I know people have hesitations about shopping for 501s online, maybe I could share my tips in another post?
1930s Indigo Blue Bandana - I’ve been very into neck scarfs and bandanas this year. My hair is also finally long enough that I can tie a small scarf around a bun or ponytail without looking silly. This one is a bit too expensive for my taste, but the checkerboard and polka dot combo is GOOD.
Brown & White Shirt Jacket - Loving the longer length. I also like that the belt can be tied around the waist to create a more defined shape, or tied in the back to gather excess fabric. If you’re vibing with this jacket, definitely give Rawson a browse.
Vintage Wicker Handbag - No offense to designer wicker and woven bags, but it’s tough to top vintage.
Antique Cut Glass Vase - Imagine that you wore an assortment of the pieces above to a farmers market and picked up a fresh bunch of flowers. When you get home you give the stems a trim and pop them in this stunner.
Happy Sunday!
